XXV School - Copenhagen

 

 

The Technical University of Denmark is organizing 2-day school, held on 29-30 August 2014 within the EUPROMETA Doctoral Programme. The doctoral school will take place at DTU campus in Kongens Lyngby, 12 Km north of Copenhagen city centre. The directions for reaching the DTU campus can be found on the webpage http://congress2014.metamorphose-vi.org/index.php/arrival.

 

Topics and lecturers

The school topic is "Novel terahertz and infrared metamaterials" :

1. Peter Uhd Jepsen (Technical University of Denmark, Denmark)

     "Introduction to terahertz science and technology (generation, propagation, detection, applications)"

2. Daniel Mittleman (Rice University, USA)

    "THz metamaterials: fabrication, characterization and applications.”

3. Javier Garcia de Abajo (ICFO, Spain)

     “Graphene for THz and IR metamaterials and plasmonics (focus on theory).”

4. Tony Low (IBM, USA)

   “Light-Matter Interactions in 2D Materials: From physics to devices."

5. Mikhail Lapine (University of Sydney, Australia)

   “Nonlinear and reconfigurable metamaterials from microwaves to terahertz and infrared.”

6. Gennady Shvets (University of Texas at Austin, USA)

    “Mid-infrared metamaterials and devices.”

In addition to those lectures a joint social event with DTU’s OSA and SPIE Student Chapters will be organized.

Cancellation policy:

  • after July 25, 2014: no refund
  • before July 25, 2014: 20% refund
  • before June 25, 2014: 50% refund

 

Social event

The social event (barbeque party) will be a joint event together with DTU’s OSA and SPIE chapters.

 

Grant support

The Doctoral School organizers will provide a few grants for students. The school registration fees will be reimbursed for grant recipients. The grantee selection will be based on the applicants' scientific merits and on their personal circumstances, such as being students from low-income countries.

To apply for the grant, it is necessary to register for the DoctoralSchool first.
